Watch it play out
How to do it
- Stay in the right part of your lane.
- Keep your speed or ease off slightly.
- Leave room ahead so the passing car can merge back in.
- Check that it is fully back before you speed up again.
Why the rule works this way
The passing driver is in the most dangerous spot on the road. Making their pass shorter makes everyone safer.
Common mistakes
- Speeding up out of reflex.
- Drifting toward the center line.
